We Were Here shows what it is like to feel lonely when you enter a new place. Miguel was sent in to Juvenile Hall and then to a group home. When he entered the group home, most of the people there already knew eachother. When he went there, he was all alone. He knew not one person. He would spend his days writing in his notebook and reading different books. A boy named Mong did not like Miguel when he first got there. Everyone there knew not to mess with Mong but Miguel did not really care. Miguel picked a fight with Mong and that was not a smart thing to do. Miguel was all alone in the group home. No one really cared to get to know him. He would eat outside near no one. People started to think he loved reading because thats all he would do at the group home. Since he knew no one, he thought he could pass time by reading books. He felt alone when he walked in to the group home.

3rd Independent Reading Book:Write a letter to the author or to the main character or to someone you know who should read your book.
Dear Miguel,
I couldn't believe that you were actually able to escape from the group home with Monk and Rondell. Your plan sounded very thought out and like you knew what you were doing. It was probably hard to have to hide from the cops. I can understand why you wanted to get away from the group home. You had a bad time there and you knew that you didn't deserve to be there. It sounded like you needed to keep writing in your notebook. The judge gave it to you so you can be able to express your feelings without having to say them. It was better for you to keep writing in it. The notebook helped you feel a lot better. You haven't seen your father since you were little and you felt like you had to see him and you probably thought you would have a better life with him. I thought you made the right choice in the end.
Sincerely,
Bryan Solis

Why don't you want live with your father and take care of him? He is an old man and is at his last few years of life. He be living alone right. You could take your wife, Francoise to live with you and your father or you could bring him to live with you. You can't blame him for burning all of the diaries that your mother kept. They could have brought back a lot of happy memories that made him sad. I think that you she bring him to live with because like he feels the regret of burning the diaries, you will regret not bringing him to live with you and taking care of him.
Sincerely,
Bryan Solis

Dark Angel by David Klass
Dark Angel is about a boy named Jeff who has a great life until he learned some bad news. His brother Troy was being released from prison and is going to live with them. When Troy comes to see Jeff play soccer he gets in to a fight with Tommy Fraser. The next day, the cops show up at their house and tell them that Tommy Fraser is missing and Troy is a suspect. Jeff is trying to find out what happened to Tommy and he will not be ready for what happens the closer he gets to finding out what happened to Tommy Fraser. This is a great book that shows both sides of good and evil.

Connecting to the Main Character
The main character of the story has many different attributes. I think that I can relate to some of his attributes. Jeff feels that he can protect his loved ones but his girlfriend's dad does not believe him. I also think that i can protect my loved ones. Jeff can also be stubborn at times in the book. Jeff just can not understand that his girlfriend's dad does not want him to talk to her. Jeff is also someone who can get jeleous. He thinks now that Franchise Fraser is single, he will want to try to become Beth's boyfriend. These are some attributes that Jeff will try to fix.
Next Book
The next book i am going to read is Dark Angel by David Klass. It is about a boy named Jeff whose life was great until his brother came back. His brother Troy was being released from jail and he is going to live with them. He was arrested for murdering a boy when he was young. He had to tell his girlfriend about Troy and now that he did, she can not talk to him because her dad doesnt want her to. Now that Franchise Frasier is single, he is afraid that she will become his girlfriend. I picked this book because i had to read a book and i read the first couple of pages and it seemed interesting so now i am reading this for my second independent reading book of the semester.
